Hello fellow seekers of the paranormal!

I haven’t yet written on our last investigation at the Queen Mary. Well, no better time than Halloween to share that story, right? So, for my birthday last month my beloved husband takes me to the Queen Mary to stay a couple of days. We pack up the usual ghost hunting equipment, video cameras, emf detectors, digital audio recorder, camera, night vision goggles… we are ALL set!

We get to the ship and check in rather late. We are starved, and ready to eat dinner, after which we will do a ship walk through. We have rented a suite, and so feel excited that the night will be elegant. But because we are checking in somewhat later they say they are all booked up and they are down to the last suite. Who cares, right? I mean, a suite is a suite, right? Wrong. We walk in and immediately there is a horrible chemical odor – hard to describe, but let me tell you, it was so strong it sent me into an asthma flareup. Plus, the room is butt-ugly.

We have stayed on the ship several times already and we know their rooms are generally lovely, fragrant, comfortable. This “suite” has the energy of an old office stuck in the 40′s. I could easily imagine the old dusty file cabinets, and desks that had once been in there. But it was more than just that… Usually when you get a ghost it’s like the ghost has invaded your time and space. Here, in this suite, I felt like I had disrupted the ghosts by walking in on THEIR time and space. It feels like a VOID in here, I remember thinking. We leave the room, me wheezing slightly, and my husband feeling down – expectations shattered. Upstairs, at the desk they say we have to downgrade, because that was the only suite available at that time. Fine, we say. They give us a room and back down the hall we go, excited again because this room is also supposed to be very nice.

So I open the door, and the second I walk in, I am penetrated by an icy cold chill that makes me break out in goose-flesh. It’s freezing in here, I say to hubby. He walks in, and immediately freezes. One good thing, the room is lovely, smells great, and is super clean. I turn the heat on, but the room stays cold, and we are getting chills. Within minutes we had gone from choosing which restaurant we’d eat dinner at, to grabbing the room service menu. We both felt like crap. I ordered chicken Alfredo, and he ordered the pizza, but by the time our food arrived we were both coming down with fevers, and so neither of us were hungry. The room wasn’t getting warmer and I called front desk to ask them what could be done about our freezing room. They engineer arrived within minutes and he said something needed to be adjusted somewhere, and off he went – and the warmth did start to come from the vents, thank God! So to make a long story short, we spent those two days on the ship horribly sick in bed and taking regular doses of fever and pain medication, watching HBO from time to time – not that anything good was on those days anyway.

The first night I felt something touching my knee, and that was creepy. I’d try to ignore it, until I had to brush whatever it was away. It was persistent though and I brushed “it” away maybe four or five times before it finally subsided.

The morning of our departure I was thinking about the ship’s horn and why I hadn’t noticed it at all during our stay. It goes off on a regular schedule, and is so loud you can’t hardly miss it – I really enjoy hearing it go off. About twenty minutes later I heard a very clear, very male voice say in my ear “It’s coming.” I thought my husband had said something but he wasn’t close to me, he was on the other side of the bed.
“What did you say?” I asked him anyway.
“I didn’t say anything,” he answered.
“Yes you did. You just said something in my ear. What did you say?”
“I didn’t say anything.”
He was still sick, and I knew he wasn’t playing around.
Just then the ships’s horn sounded loud and long. Obviously, “it’s coming” meant the horn was about to blow, and our ghostly friend was kind enough to let me know. Least he could do for sucking our energy so he could haunt the ship for the past two nights.

So as a ghost hunter I have to ask myself now, am the the hunter? Or the hunted??? My guess is there’s a degree of give and take in the matter. It was my turn to give that time.

Hello again…it’s been awhile I know. Loving all these ghost hunting shows until I realized that with some of them you get so little action it’s almost as if they are trying to disprove ghosts exist.

I guess there’s some style for everyone, and I can tell from facebook postings that many people love the comic style of Ghost Adventures…so boogie for them. I personally like the guys, and feel they know their game, but I would prefer less clowning around, and more serious investigation.

I guess I’ve come to appreciate the Ghost Hunters methods more, even though they had been getting on my nerves for awhile for picking on poor Brian all the time, who really seemed like he was bending over backwards to make Jason happy…

By the way, by now you might know that Ryan and his team won’t be returning for Paranormal State, which happened to be a pretty good show. Too bad. Enjoy these last episodes because… they are the last.

So Ghost Adventures, a little less three stooges from you guys would be nice – believe me, you’re entertaining enough without the wigs, goofy faces, and silly antics…

Ghost Hunters, you’ve encountered a lot of good evidence…just wish you weren’t so over-dramatic with the music and subliminal sound effects…Glad you got rid of certain air-headed investigators – and we all know who that might be…

Paranormal State, will miss you.

Keeping it Short and Sweet! — Gina

I’m not going to blog the history much, but if you’re here reading this post, you’re probably already familiar with the Whaley house. It’s one of two certified haunted houses in California (the other being the Winchester House in San Jose).

As teenagers with driving licenses, me and my friends found ourselves there many a weekend. It’s changed a little. This may date me, but one thing different is there used to be a cool old trolleycar in the yard. There was always someone already on the trolley, or soon to show up, who knew the stories of the house. We would sit on the old seats and listen, and from our seats watch breathlessly the house curtains to see if they moved. They actually never did move, but I’m pretty sure from the stories told, the ghosts inside were busy with duties other than peeking out to scare the voyeurs.

Once, while I peered through a door window I did hear something like a hand grasping and turning the doorknob. When I looked, I saw not a movement at all. Still, I ran back to my friends and told them, and truthfully admitted it could’ve been all my imagination. But it was something to keep us hopeful because in spite of the unshakeable feeling that someone was there walking beside you, most of our visits were visually uneventful.

Between visits I read books about the famous California haunt. One account is particularly stand-outish. A group of SDSU students studying paranormal had obtained permission to spend the night. I can’t help but wonder if they went in skeptical, but they ended up observing a heavy table floating and walking through the house, kitchen utensils, including knives, levitating and flying through the kitchen, and other unusual sights. Some of the students reached enough conclusion to leave before the night was officially over. I don’t think I’d be too comfortable with flying knives myself.

The famous ghost hunter, Hans Holzer, also stayed over at the Whaley House, accompanied by then San Diego celebrity, Regis Philbin, and famous psychic, Sybil Leek. Apparently, they were welcomed to the house by none other than the ghost of Anna Whaley, mistress of the manor, herself. While Hans and Sybil attempted to communicate. an excited and novice Regis turned his flashlight on her ghostly image, and she disappeared. Oh well. Probably the last ghost hunt he was invited to.

One night some friends and I stopped by after midnight – we were 17-ish – and we joined several young college kids on the porch working a Ouija board. One of the guys invited me to partner with him on the board. I agreed. The pointer (planchette) slid across the board easily. We asked our invisible partner his name, and got the name Seth. I thought for sure my college boy was moving the planchette, but alas, when his fingers slipped off momentarily, the instrument continued sliding across the board – and I knew I wasn’t moving it! To be honest I can’t remember what more Seth said, I was a little uneasy with it after that. I had been comfortable thinking that it was all a game we were playing. Searching for ghosts was like searching for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, and then all of a sudden it was not a game. I never touched a Ouija board after that night.

Still I was drawn to the Whaley house. One night I sat outside the window. Suddenly I was aware that I was coming out of a trance of sorts – aware that for the past few seconds I had been listening to a murmur of voices – like a party had been going on in the house, and though I couldn’t make out any words or single out any conversation, there had been many voices, and clinks of dinnerware.

When I came to full awareness I could no longer hear anything coming from the house, but I was left with an awareness that I had gone into a trance state, and been allowed entry into another dimension where life at the Whaley house continues to flow.

My last time at the Whaley house was Halloween, 2005. This was my first time inside. I had two experiences. The first took place a few minutes into my visit, in the kitchen. I was talking with the docent when I felt a cold draft envelope me from head to toe, encircling me like an icy robe. I asked the docent if she had any ghost stories and she said a few minutes earlier a lady had mentioned seeing a hazy feminine figure standing in the corner of the kitchen.

Later, while going down the staircase I distinctly felt someone tug at me from the side, encouraging me down the stairs. In NO way did I feel pushed from behind- like someone trying to push me down the stairs. It was more like a child that I had told we were going to go get some ice cream trying to hurry me along in a “Let’s go!” fashion.

It’s time for me to go to the Whaley House again. This week or next. I’ll let you know if I happen to have an experience.

Over the next few posts, I’m going to share some authentic, personal ghost experiences with you, dear reader. This one goes back to 1998.

A friend of mine, Mary, had a sister that was mildly developmentally disabled. Mary’s sister was 40 ‘ish, yet functioned at say a five year old level. So, she could dress herself, speak and communicate somewhat, but she lived with her dad and though her dad took care of her, he had a lot of health issues – physical and rumor had it, mental.

One day my friend Mary called me and said her dad had gone into the hospital and asked could I spend the night at her sister’s house, and see she was taken care of. You see, Mary was married with small kids and had enough on her plate. Besides, she lived 45 minutes away. I told her I couldn’t do it that night but promised the next night if she still needed someone. So, Mary got another friend Ellen to stay over that first night. Mary’s sister (whom I will simply refer to as sister) knew Ellen and me pretty well so she was happy. To be honest, it didn’t seem that sister understood the extent of her dad’s condition. What happened that hot summer night was creepy. (Ellen called me the next day to tell me what had happened.)

Early in the evening while she and sister were eating dinner in the dining room, Ellen heard the screen door open and footsteps that seemed to go back towards the bedroom. She got up and went back to the back rooms, thinking it was Mary, or the dad had come home, but no one was there. She said there was a dense energy though, and she had a feeling something was wrong. About an hour later, Mary called to say her dad had passed away – about the time when they had heard the screen door open and footsteps. Ellen didn’t tell sister, because Mary would come see her the next day and tell her then. Ellen said that all that night she heard sister up watching TV, and though she tried to get some sleep, she kept feeling something pinching her. Needless to say, she didn’t get much sleep.

Now bear in mind, I had promised to stay the next night, and thus was called upon to fulfill that promise. I arrived to the house late afternoon, and immediately felt the unusual energy. Even though it was hot summer, the house was icy in some rooms. Especially the dad’s room and sister’s room. Still nothing dramatic happened until late evening. Sister had been staying in her room, and I finally invited her to come watch TV with me. She said, “No,” that in the living room TV she saw her dad’s face, and he was making scary faces at her. Then she retreated back into her room. I was creeped out at the thought, but then something caught my attention – the curtain cord was moving in a circular motion by itself. I noticed there was no draft, no air conditioning, no reason for the movement. And weird, it would move clockwise for a minute or two, then it would move counter clockwise. And switch back and forth. I watched it do that for several minutes and then went back to sister’s room to join her.

Now this is weird. I didn’t find her in her room, she was in her dad’s room. Because of his health issues he had his TV high up on the wall, next to the door. Like in a hospital room. Walking down the hall I could hear the TV blaring loudly commercial after commercial. As soon as I entered the room, the TV went snowy -white noise. You know, shhhhhhshhhhshhhhshhhh, no picture, just snow. I stayed about five minutes but sister was pretty unresponsive. I figured she just wanted to be alone, so I left. As I left the room, the TV resumed it’s normal programming, I could hear the familiar jingles of some commercial or another. I went to sit on the sofa, which looked towards the hallway, and those hallway walls were boiling with swirling shadows. I knew it was paranormal. I knew it was her dad – and then some, perhaps. I just stared at those shadows for several minutes then decided it was time for bed. I didn’t sleep a wink.

The next day Mary asked if I could stay one last night. She was going to put her sister in a special home and they would be sending people to help her starting the next day. I said yes. I talked with Ellen and we decided I would take some ammonia, sage, and a Bible and Crucifix. I arrived late afternoon, and sister was there alone. She had just come home from her program and was acting extremely odd. She taunted me with the door lock and wouldn’t let me in the house. She didn’t even seem to have a disability at all, the way she talked with such clarity and venom. Now, she couldn’t have known about the spirit-clearing items I had in my bag, but she kept asking, “What’s in the bag, huh? What’s in the bag?” Finally she sneered at me, and with a truly evil look on her face cackled, “I know what’s in the bag, and you’re not coming in here you Witch.” It was like she knew my intention was to do some energy cleansing, and she wasn’t going to let that happen.

From a payphone I called Mary and told her what had happened, then I waited in my car for her to arrive. Well, Mary got there within an hour and while she was packing to take sister to her place, sister decided she wanted to stay there. She coiled up to me sweetly and with a wicked grin said, “I’ve changed my mind, I really want to stay here with you tonight.” I grinned back and said quietly, “That’s not going to happen.”

The whole situation was uncomfortable. I would have to say that the dad was keeping his watch on her, and I have to wonder what her experience of that whole time period was. Unfortunately, her verbal and cognitive skills are not up to that conversation.

I’ve been interested in Black Dog sightings ever since having my own rather scary experience. I looked on the web and found an astonishing site where the author follows phantom Black Dog folklore. Check it out here: http://www.indigogroup.co.uk/edge/bdogfl.htm

Anyway, I emailed my own experience to Bob and here is a copy of it so you can read about my experience.

The year was 1998. It was very early morning and I was visiting a lovely old California mission. Alone, I had wandered out to a huge field out back where were orchards, and the stations of the cross – quite far from any of the mission buildings. But the air was cool and fresh, and I was enjoying the lonely serenity. I had just started walking the stations of the cross when I saw this beautiful black raven on a low-hanging branch, about ten feet in front of me. The raven made a loud call and I stopped to look at him. He seemed to be looking at me, and I was fascinated.

Then I noticed movement to the right, just off the path. About ten feet down from the large bird, was a huge, black black black, scruffy dog - the size of a Saint Bernard. The dog had a (and I hate to say this about a dog because I’m an ardent dog lover) malevolent, other-world energy about him. However, he didn’t appear to even notice I was there and though I was truly grateful, I was confused as to why not. The dog seemed to be out of it, or on a different dimension. Like perhaps he couldn’t see me? He simply sniffed around in some bushes and weeds at the side of my path.

So here we are, me, a Raven, and a huge strange-acting black dog. No one around to hear me scream should I need help. And seriously folks, I had a strong hunch that if he did see me, I would be history. I was pretty sure about that.

Then I heard a voice in my head – presumably from the raven – saying, “Stand still and follow my directions.”

I thought back, “ok.”

The raven “said” in my head, “When I tell you to go, go. Don’t look back, Don’t run. Just turn and walk away.”

I thought back, “Ok.”

A moment later the Raven cawed loudly, while at the same exact moment another dog barked in the background. The black dog turned towards the bark and stumbled off in what was the opposite direction that I was to go in. When the raven cawed it was like, “go!” - understand all this was happening at the same time, the caw, the bark, the dog turning, me hearing “go!” - and I immediately turned around, walked quickly towards the buildings, totally expecting to hear sounds of black dog chasing me, but happily, didn’t.

When I got a safe distance I turned to see where the dog had gone but he’d disappeared. It was baffling because the direction he’d gone was grassy field for quite a ways and I should’ve seen some hint of him.

Anyway, I went to my car and left. Happy to be alive, because I’m pretty sure if that dog had seen me things would be different. That’s my experience.

Mood: Amazed

Listening to: Don’t Stop the Dance by Bryan Ferry

I just got back from the DMV. I was sweating the vision test part because, even though I can see as well as the next guy who never had Lasix surgery, I am pretty near sighted, and well, you know how that is. I was imagining all sorts of ridiculous tests and procedures - such as…well, nevermind. I’m not going to give the DMV people any ideas in case one of you is reading this.

Anyway I passed with flying colors – it was way easy. Funny how we stress ourselves out over the bad things we make up in our heads. And believe me, I was stressed. I love driving – and like many of us, would be at a severe loss without that privilege.

I got to the office and started thinking about a strange experience I had a couple of days ago. I happen to believe in the power of animal totems. An animal totem is rather like an animal guide. The guide can be a real animal or the spirit of an animal. They come to you symbolically – sometimes for a few minutes to deliver a message, sometimes for a few years to teach a life lesson. And everything in between.

I’ll give you an example. One of my guides is the Raven. One day, after having lost my dad, and being very depressed, I came upon a beautiful Raven “beaking” at something at the top of a phone pole. I felt obliged to stop and observe. He dropped that thing which he’d been eating. I was across the street, but I heard a voice in my head say, “This is for you.”

I walked over, and looked. It was a quarter-sized piece of dry bread. I looked up. “Thanks. Do you want me to eat this?” I frowned, and asked out loud.

“You don’t have to really eat it – because it’s to feed your soul.” I heard the bird say, in my head. ”Eat it’s essence and your soul shall be nourished. Then you can leave the bread to physically nourish another creature.”

I was awed by that experience, and quite frankly, though it’s fifteen years later, I still feel the love.

Anyway, a couple of days ago I was driving home, drinking a Starbucks coffee and listening to old-school rock. The first thing I saw was a large billboard that had a huge eagle on it. Some company called eagle something or another. Within a few seconds Steve Miller Band’s song, Fly Like an Eagle came on. Just then, a truck passed me bearing a rear window covering of a huge American flag, with huge eagle off to the right – you’ve seen the type, I’m sure. As I arrived near my home, I saw - you guessed it – an eagle on a bumper sticker, but I can’t remember what the bumper sticker said, sorry. Four eagles in ten minutes.

Today I looked up what EAGLE teaches us, and guess what. I could’ve saved myself some grief. It was about great vision!! I got my license renewed today, and passed the vision test easily. Like I said, I could’ve stopped the stress a couple of days ago had I just tapped into the message when I got it.

If you’re interested in finding your animal guide. check out this great link:

Check out the video and form your own opinion.

Apparently, after hours, the motion detectors repeatedly went off at this Missouri gym – lucky for us, they had video monitors. Upon analyzing the video, security is obviously surprised to not see “anyone” but what they do see is a large orb floating around. I watched the video several times and have to say it seems to me as if the orb is moving intentionally, like it knows the place.

(I saw a link to this video at a bodybuilders site and some wisecracker made the hilarious observation that the orb moved about the gym like most people who go in there – wander around and around and not pick up any weights.)

Remember, ghosts like to absorb area energy in order to manifest – you know, rattle chains, say things like, “Get out,” pull hair, and send out cigar smells – and they can get this energy from batteries, electrical appliances, other people, etc.

The gym is a perfect place for a ghost to suck up energy. I’ll bet that gym will be having a hard time getting people to stay late by themselves from now on!! I’d love to work there for a few nights. Please visit both links – one is the news story, the other is pure video footage. Enjoy.
